Two things you must do to stop water from leaking out of Your Hot Water Heater in your Rosedale Maryland home.
If your hot water heater is leaking, and your reading this blog right now, chances are you have no idea what to do and have a whole mess of water hanging out in your home right now. We’re going to get you started before you call your certified water damage team and your plumber.
Cut the power to the hot water heater that is leaking
The first thing you should do when you find a hot water leak is turn off the power source leading to the water heater. If you have a gas water heater, find your thermostat. You should see a little knob with three settings: ON, OFF and PILOT. Switch it to OFF or PILOT to shut off the gas and make the heater safe to work on. If you have an electric water heater, go to your breaker panel and find the breaker labeled “Water Heater”. Turn it off to cut the power to your unit.
Shut off the water to stop the leak from expanding
Time to turn off the water, this part is easy. First, you’ll need to find the cold water line leading to your water heater. There should be a valve on the line – turn it to the right until it closes. This will cut off the water and allow you to move on to the next step: calling your hot water heater company, and calling your water damage clean up team. If you’re located in the Baltimore county area, then call SERVPRO of Perry Hall White Marsh – we will set you up with a plumber. Then call your insurance if you’d like to put in a claim or wait till we arrive if you’d like to decide later.
