Whether its cooking on the grill, deep frying a turkey, or simply making a weeknight dinner Cooking fires are the leading cause of fires and fire-related injuries in the US.
The National Fire Protection association (NFPA) reports that fire departments report 357,000 home fires each year. 45% of these fires are from cooking – That’s almost half of all fires!. These fires cause hundreds of deaths, thousands of injuries, and not to mention 6.9 billion dollars worth of damage every year.
Causes of Cooking related fires
- Unattended cooking equipment
- Abandoned or discarded material or product
- Heat source too close to combustibles
- Unclassified misuse of material
- Unintentionally turned on or not turned off
