How to use a Portable Fire Extinguisher

Portable fire extinguishers are a life (and property saving) tool when used correctly. In order to use an extinguisher properly, the National Fire Protection Association suggest following "PASS"

P- Pull the pin. Hold the nozzle pointing away from you and release the locking mechanism.

A- Aim low. Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire.

S- Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly.

S - Sweep the nozzle from side to side.

Read and familiarize yourself with the instructions on the extinguisher BEFORE a fire breaks out. Also never forget that extinguishers have limitations and make sure you have the correct type and number of extinguishers for your home or facility. To learn more visit the NFBA website at NFBA.org.
